In 1976, the 5.45x39 cartridge was adopted and it was decided that in order to identify 5.45 trunions from the 7.62, the arrow from inside the triangle would be dropped leaving just a blank triangle for the new caliber guns. The stamp is applied only after the trunion is accepted for milspec production. The triangle with the arrow inside was the original Cugir stamp. The triangle in general indicates that the gun was made at the Cugir arsenal.

On the trunion of all military Romanian rifles there should be either an empty triangle or a triangle with a little arrow pointing upwards before the serial number. I'm new to the AK club, and have a few questions about the trunion stamp & serial number on my rifle. These rules are also posted every time you submit a link or self post so don't say you didn't see them. Don't like it, get over it and go somewhere else. We have to follow ATF laws and those are too muddy for a place like Reddit. No AKs with buffer tubes to meet the 26 inch OAL length.
